“In the last years researchers started to adopt the bottom-up approach instead of the old-fashioned top-down production of scaffolds for regenerative medicine and drug delivery. Nanotechnology allows now for the design and synthesis of biomaterials at the molecular level, bringing to engineers the power to include new multiple biological functions to bioabsorbable bioprostheses, designed for the specific pathology and, soon, customized for each patient. Nanostructured scaffolds, a turning point for tissue engineers, fostering efficient stem cell transplants and long-term drug delivery will bring regenerative medicine to a new brilliant era.”
